Healthcare workers know firsthand what happens when a healthcare system puts profits over patients. From unsafe staffing and patient volume to threats to healthcare access due to loss of coverage and hospital closures, healthcare workers and patients are baring the burden of a system that too often puts our needs last.
Together, we have the power to change it.
Join The Patients Union for an in-person deep dive into what it could look like for healthcare workers to help build the real worker-patient power required to change the healthcare system. We're bringing together a small, multidisciplinary group of healthcare workers from across North Carolina to strategize about healthcare workers' unique role in building patient power and winning the healthcare system we deserve.
During this interactive training, we'll:
- Connect with other healthcare workers who are fed up with our broken system and are ready to fight for something better
- Surface the main sources of moral injury and the ways in which our system is failing patients and workers
- Ground our work in the history of healthcare worker and patient organizing in the US and around the world
- Identify shares values for healthcare workers to hold while fighting for change
- Create a vision for how healthcare workers will build worker-patient power
- Design experiments to test that vision
- Review organizing basics that can turn shared concerns into collective action, including: 1:1 conversations, leadership identification, direct action + the escalation ladder
You don't need any previous organizing experience to participate. Whether you've been organizing for years or are just beginning to think about how to make change beyond the exam room, this meeting is for you.
We'll provide food, drinks, and training materials. You just bring yourself and a fighting spirit!
Together, we're building a movement where patients and healthcare workers have the power to shape the decisions that affect our health, our workplaces, and our communities. Can't wait to see you there.
