Start: Saturday, January 24, 2026•02:00 PM
Location: First Unitarian• 473 Oakwood Avenue, Toronto, ON M6E 2W4 CA
Join us for a family-friendly discussion of community safety!
Even the police agree that they should not be our go-to for ‘solving’ all emergencies. But if not the police, then who?
Snacks provided, kids & adults both welcome!
We will watch the 30-minute documentary 1 Million Experiments about people in the United States who invested in projects to help their community thrive. We will have some round-table discussion and arts-based activities about what community safety looks like in our homes and local streets.
Content warning: The documentary has a short but direct description of torture and extreme bodily harm in the context of Chicago police torture survivors.
2:00-2:45 pm Viewing of 1 Million Experiments (with English subtitles)
3:00-5:00 pm Draw, Paint, Write, Play! We will have arts-based activities exploring the question, "What would community safety look like for you?"
This will be a masked event, meaning that we request everyone masks to make the event accessible to illness-vulnerable community members. Masks will be provided. There will be food and people can unmask to eat. We will have air purifiers in the space.
Option to Attend Online
We will be hosting the same event 2-5 pm on Zoom for people who can't join in person, but still want to watch the documentary and participate in discussion of community safety in our community. We will screen the movie with captions at 2:15 pm. This will be followed by an online discussion and opportunity to participate in an arts-based activity.
