Across Michigan people are working to make our communities safer while reducing the harms of excessive policing. They are organizing community violence intervention, mobilizing for police accountability, building restorative justice alternatives to traditional prosecution, and more.

These are exciting times!

Sadly, the impact of these efforts is less than it could be. Poor connections between groups working in different communities and on different solutions forces organizations to reinvent the wheel to solve common problems, limits the ability to coordinate across efforts, and reduces the ability of local and state efforts to support each other.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

That’s why the Michigan Collaborative to End Mass Incarceration, with our partners the Detroit Justice Center, Friends of Restorative Justice, Emergent Justice and the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion, are proposing an Incarceration Off-Ramps & Transforming Public Safety Learning Community to:

  • Help you share resources with peers so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel when creating public education materials, figuring out how to address opposition, and designing strategies to access and analyze data

  • Learn strategies and tactics from national and Michigan practitioners

  • Build a supportive community with peers across the state

  • Connect your local-level experience with state policy discussions

  • Create a context for rich strategy discussions
