Insure Our Future Global Week of Action: Connecticut Action @ The Hartford

Start: Monday, February 26, 202411:30 AM

Join us for an Insure Our Future Global Week of Action event here in the Insurance Capitol of the World!

On Monday, February 26th at 11:30am we will be gathering outside The Hartford insurance company offices here in Hartford CT to call out their underwriting and investing in fossil fuels and hold them accountable for their role in the climate crisis.

The Hartford is impacting local communities in Lake Charles, Louisiana. We will hear from activists and Lake Charles community member, Roishetta Sibley Ozane and James Hiatt, who will be traveling all the way up to Hartford for this action.

Roishetta Sibley Ozane is the founder of The Vessel Project of Louisiana, a mutual aid and environmental justice organization. As the Gulf Fossil Finance Coordinator with the Texas Campaign for the Environment Fund, she advocates for marginalized communities nationally and internationally, speaking in countries like Egypt, Canada, and Malaysia. Roishetta, an award-winning environmental justice advocate, focuses on ensuring clean air, water, and sustainable communities for Black, Indigenous, and people of color. She is actively involved in various organizations, including the National Association of University Women and McNeese State University Black Alumni. A She Leads Fellow Alum for the Power Coalition of Equity and Justice, Roishetta is a single mother of six, driven by her children's future in creating a better world. She lives by the belief that true goodness is achieved when everyone thrives, demonstrating this through her philanthropy and compassionate heart.

James Hiatt, a native of Southwest Louisiana, founded For a Better Bayou in January 2023. With over a decade in the petrochemical industry, his varied roles included ship agent, dock worker, tank farm operator, and laboratory analyst. His experiences have fueled a passion for addressing the cognitive dissonance between livelihoods and environmental impacts. A McNeese State University graduate in Psychology, James also completed a Contemplative Spirituality program at the Living School for Action and Contemplation. He cherishes family time, travel, music, and endeavors for a more just and loving world.

The Hartford has also recently announced it would no longer issue new homeowners insurance policies in California starting in February 2024.

We must call out the hypocrisy of a company that touts themselves as one of the "most ethical companies in the world."

Join us for this action, that will be one of many that are happening all around the world, during the Insure Our Future Global Week of Action. Learn more here: https://global.insure-our-future.com/global-week-of-action-2024/
