Direct Action Training (Scotland)

Start: Saturday, June 28, 202510:00 AM

End: Saturday, June 28, 202505:00 PM

RESCHEDULED (this event was originally planned for 1st June)

To take direct action is to work to achieve goals under our own collective power, in spite of the authorities. This will often involve risks, sometimes including the use of force or arrest by police and security forces. Even if you wish to avoid these experiences, it's important to understand the risks we take as activists, and how we can support each other.

This one day training course aims to prepare those who are considering taking direct action in Scotland with the knowledge and confidence needed to challenge oppressive or unjust systems as part of a supportive group.

- Learn how to perform practical direct action & civil disobedience safely and responsibly
- Practice fast group decision making
- Learn to organise with buddies and as affinity groups
- Explore interaction with police and security forces, and how to minimise safety risks to your group and the public
- Walk through the process of being arrested, from police warnings through arrest, custody, charges and court hearings
- Know your rights under Scottish law

This training is independently run, but draws from experienced contributions from direct action groups such as Climate Camp Scotland, rs21, Extinction Rebellion, Just Stop Oil, Youth in Resistance, and This is Rigged.
