Intro to Electoral Organizing | Training Intensive (Day 1)
Start: Saturday, July 26, 2025•01:30 PM
End: Saturday, July 26, 2025•04:30 PM

Since Trump's election things have felt bleak and overwhelming. It's tempting to doom scroll or just turn away from the news and politics completely! These are understandable reactions to what may feel like an irreversible catastrophe. But this July 26th and 27th you can come learn about why working on local elections is a real way to fight back against the larger tide of fascism and capitalism in the US and the world, and hear from some NYC-DSA comrades who worked on Zohran Mamdani's campaign about how they knocked 1.5 million doors and won a historic victory in the NYC mayoral primary!
In this weekend intensive, we will introduce you to why local electoral work is the perfect confluence of practical action and idealism for a better future for the DMV. We will get into the evidence supporting our primary mode of winning these local elections: door-to-door canvassing. And we will discuss the upcoming opportunities to participate in local races this year!
This will take place at the Takoma Park Community Center (on the Maryland side) at 7500 Maple Avenue MD, but day 1 will be hybrid.
Day 1 is Intro to Electoral Organizing, and will take place on Saturday, July 26 from 1:30 to 4:30pm. RSVP for Zoom info! This is for members interested in learning about the Metro DC chapter's electoral strategy and how it helps realize our broader political vision. We'll also be talking with some NYC-DSA comrades about how Zohran Mamdani's campaign fits into DSA's theory of change! This day is specifically designed for newer members who are new to politics or the chapter, or anyone looking to explore the electoral working group.
Day 2 is the Electoral Team Launch & Training Intensive on Sunday, July 27th from 1:30 to 4:30pm and is meant for DSA members who plan to be involved in the summer/fall election season. We will be going into more detail about how to use your current skill set to help erect our chapter's campaign operation and identifying what skills you need to be successful canvassers and organizers for the program.
