Congratulations to Mayor-elect Mamdani on a historic win! Under soon-to-be Mayor Mamdani, New York City can turn the page on Eric Adams’ corruption - and get back to leading the world’s global cities in innovative, bold policy to create good jobs, prevent climate change, and lower our utility bills.

Let’s get this!

That’s why FWW, NYCC, and NYPIRG are co-hosting a training and launch for a #GasFreeNYC.

Oil and gas use in buildings is New York City’s top source of pollution. Our campaign will work to stop the climate crisis and reduce the epidemic of asthma in our communities while creating good jobs and cutting utility bills.

A city-wide grassroots force won Local Law 97, the city’s “Green New Deal” law. Local Law 97 is already cutting pollution by hundreds of thousands of tons yearly, creating thousands of good jobs, and reducing energy bills in large buildings. But Local Law 97 does not cover small buildings, which are the large bulk of the city’s 1 million buildings.

Now, we’re going to launch the next phase of our work: as we continue to ensure Local Law 97 is properly implemented for big buildings, we will push for funding and requirements that will save people money while cutting pollution and creating good jobs in our city’s small buildings. We want good policies to comprehensively cover all buildings, which are the source of about 70% of the city’s climate-heating pollution. Upgrading all our buildings to high energy efficiency is a major opportunity to save money and create good jobs.

Join us on Wednesday, December 10th from 6:30 - 8:00pm to mix and mingle and then learn the issues - and get involved in the campaign to come. Dinner will be provided from 6:30-7:00 (no, it won’t be fancy). The program will start at 7:00pm. Get yourself up to speed and get plugged in to win a #GasFreeNYC!
