January 2026 Unlearning Circle - Cultivating Discernment & Building Emotional Resilience for our Anti-racist Work
Saturday, January 10, 2026
10 am to Noon
On Zoom
Reinforcing our resolve to maintain accountability, this month we are focusing on how we notice and respond when white supremacy culture distorts and weaponizes white people’s emotions, de-skilling us in our daily lives. White people’s willingness and ability to notice and respond appropriately (rather than react) to our own feelings is a crucial organizing skill. We will look at the gruesome history of lynching in the US, utilizing the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond (PISAB) Principle of learning from history, as an example of the harm caused by generations of white people’s emotions under systemic white supremacy being given life and death significance. Utilizing the PISAB Principles of sharing culture and identifying and analyzing the manifestations of racism, we’ll explore and interrogate how our own emotional responses have been shaped and influenced by these systemic injustices. We look forward to coming together as we hold ourselves accountable to our racial justice values!
