Join Us! IAM Healthcare Picket for Safe Staffing at OSU Hospitals

Start: Wednesday, March 19, 202512:00 PM

End: Wednesday, March 19, 2025 1:30 PM

On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., Patient Care Associates (PCAs) and Psychiatric Care Technicians (PCTs) represented by the IAM Healthcare union will gather during their lunch break outside The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, University Hospital, located at 410 W. 10th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43210.

The front-line healthcare workers will be joined by Columbus community members to conduct informational picketing in protest of the ongoing understaffing crisis at OSU hospitals. PCAs and PCTs are demanding that OSU Executives adopt safe staffing levels, as well as measures to recruit, respect, and retain staff. Despite an annual turnover rate exceeding 50% among first year PCAs and PCTs, the executives have not responded meaningfully to calls for improved retention and recruitment strategies.

We urge OSU executives to prioritize patient safety and employee retention by investing in staffing and other necessary improvements.

Other Important Details:
  • Picket signs will be provided (please don't bring your own)
  • "Safe Staffing Now" T-shirts will be provided (please wear it at the action, then it is yours to keep)
  • Wear your walking shoes (a picket line means we're moving the entire time!)
  • Picket captains in orange vests will coordinate to keep us organized, safe, and effective (please follow their directions)
  • While safe staffing is a serious matter, we all deserve to have fun, so be prepared to chant, sing, march, dance, clap, and enjoy the camaraderie of the picket line!
