Justice for Bonnie

Start: Wednesday, January 08, 202512:00 PM

For months, Dr. Antoinette “Bonnie” Candia-Bailey documented and reported the blatant bullying of President John Moseley to the proper workplace authorities, including the Board of Curators who oversee the President at Lincoln University in Missouri while she served as the Vice President of Student Affairs.

On January 8, 2024, 49-year old Dr. Candia-Bailey took her own life, attributed to workplace abuse — bullying and the institutional complicity that not only disregarded her valid complaints but also severely exacerbated the toxicity of her work environment. Instead of helping her or properly addressing the real problem (President John Moseley), administrators doubled down and upped the ante. When Dr. Candia-Bailey reported psychologically abusive behavior not explicitly covered under existing law, she was the one perceived to be a threat of liability to the institution.

Employers are not liable for psychological safety nor do they want to be. Ignoring complaints to avoid real and/or perceived threats of liability exponentially harms the innocent employees who have done nothing other than ask their employer for a safe work environment free from all forms of abuse.

On January 8, 2025, End Workplace Abuse will lead a nationwide protest at State Capitols across the country in honor and remembrance of Dr. Candia-Bailey on the first anniversary of her needless death to raise public awareness about the widespread use of these inhumane, and cruel workplace practices researchers refer to as processes of dehumanization and traumatization.

WE NEED A LAW: the Workplace Psychological Safety Act,  calls employers to acknowledge and account for these forms of abuse in the workplace that jeopardizes the safety of employees and the work environment.

Please join us in demanding an independent investigation and Justice for Bonnie. It is not every day that we have the ability to stand in solidarity and leverage our voices in unison across the United States. Dr. Candia-Bailey was one of us and she can no longer speak for herself, but we can do what she asked us to do: “Don’t let them sweep this under the rug!”

The main event will be at the Missouri State Capitol and sister events throughout the country. Once you RSVP, you will be connected to the event in your state.

Working that day? Take a personal day. Make no mistake about it: workplace abuse is personal - and DEADLY.
