For this year’s Transit Equity Day, La Follette Black Student Union will be having a discussion with Madison City Council Alder Dina Nina Martinez Rutherford regarding racial equity and the Madison public transit system.

Historically, the La Follette attendance area is viewed as more poorly served by the public transit system than other regions of Madison, despite also being the high school with the most students of color and students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. This means working class students are pushed towards expensive car ownership to get by, harming the environment and people's pocketbooks. Major changes have been made in recent times, such as Monona joining the Madison Metro system, allowing for public transit to more thoroughly navigate around the La Follette attendance area. These barriers and changes will be discussed, centering student lived experience and perspective.

The event is mostly closed for students only. An extremely limited number of community people can attend; please communicate directly to the event host to attend.
