Come join Tech Action and learn the basics of labor organizing! Communication Workers of America (CWA), a union that represents many tech workers at Google and Activision, is running a labor organizing class in January via Zoom. The first class is on Saturday, Jan 13th and the second is Saturday, Jan 20th. Both sessions are from 1pm - 3pm ET. Please sign up on this Action Network event to sign up for one of both of the classes. Hank from the working group will sign us all up. Feel free to sign up for one or both training classes.
The Tech Action Working Group would like all of us to both trainings together in the aforementioned sequence. While the class is virtual, we will have both in-person and virtual contingents to join the class. You can either meet up with your other TAWG comrades in person to join the CWA zoom, or join from your own device.
Importance of Labor Organizing Training
Labor organizing is the cornerstone of socialism. But more importantly, it gives you a chance to make your workplace better place for you! This training will teach you the basics of unions, how to even talk about organizing with your coworkers, and build solidarity to push for demands in your workplace. If you're like me, you might feel intimidated by labor organizing. You might think "I'm just one person, how am I supposed to organize my company of hundreds, or thousands of people?" Or "I already talked about a union with coworkers and it failed." Those are good concerns to have! CWA training can teach you the skills to talk to coworkers, build coalitions, and push for a win - all in a structured way.
Tech Action Social
Organizing happens at the speed of trust. And to build more trust within Tech Action Working Group, your Organizing Committee (OC) is planning a social before the first CWA training on Jan 13th. If you're an experienced member, you can catch up with other members and get to know the newer members. If you're new, then you can get to know other newbies and older members! You can meet the other members you'll be doing labor organizing training with. We hope to be a political home and a community for you
