Laborious Literature: A Milwaukee DSA Book Club Presents: Capitalist Realism - Is There Any Alternative? by Mark Fisher

Come join us to discuss the cult classic analysis of how neoliberalism has engendered a defeatist social logic by late British theorist Mark Fisher! This famous work touches on topics as varied as what particular types of repression have been allowed to prosper in the world of consumer capital, the representation of late capital in media, the epidemics of apathy and nihilism, and how many jobs in the imperial core are structured around performed productivity and how that affects our perceptions of a functional social structure. This is one that many people have many opinions on, ranging from it being a foundational text that spurred them into political action to viewing it merely as an excuse for its author to get some pop culture takes and anti-managerial whinging out of his system; come decide for yourself- or at least have a lively discussion about it. : )
