Join the Education Committee for Milwaukee DSA's monthly book club! This month, we're reading Assata Shakur's autobiography which is titled, easily enough, Assata: An Autobiography.

As a prominent political figure of the mid to late 20th century, Shakur is known for her involvement with the Black Panther Party and subsequent political persecution at the hands of the state, which eventually led to her fleeing to Cuba where she lived out the rest of her days.

Written in a laconic voice full of both passion and tenderness, Shakur tells her history through her own lens, giving us insight into the thought, life, and context of one of the left's most admirable figures. Come talk amongst DSA members about this one, it should be fun!

Three physical copies, as well as two eBooks, of Assata: An Autobiography are available through the Milwaukee Public Library System or as a free PDF.

Accessibility standards on the Milwaukee DSA In-Person / Hybrid Meeting Checklist (based on the Accessibility Standards for Meetings) will be met for this event to the best of our ability. All building-specific accessibility standards will be met. However, given it is a public space out of our control, we do not have control over the following:

- Signage to Meeting Room
- Physical Space (barriers, fragrances, noise, lighting)
- Electrical Outlets
- Masks near entrances

Due to discussion format, there are some accessibility standards that WILL NOT BE MET:
- captions/visuals
- microphones/amplification
- Recording

As for participation expectations, please read the planned content and participate in the discussions. Ask clarifying questions!
