Learn about NJ Transit’s Dirty Gas Plant Proposal in the Meadowlands!

Start: Thursday, December 15, 202207:00 PM

NJ Transit is planning to build a new gas-fired power plant in the Meadowlands along the Hackensack River from Jersey City! This power plant would run 24x7 for over 30 years and spew more toxic emissions in a region that already has very unhealthy levels of air pollution. Air pollution is a primary cause of asthma and other respiratory diseases, and exacerbates many other health problems, especially in children and older adults. The good news is that NJ Transit can redesign this project with a clean, renewable energy alternative.

On December 15th at 7:00 PM, please join Sustainable Jersey City, the Journal Square Community Association, Food & Water Watch, and the Don’t Gas the Meadowlands Coalition to learn about NJ Transit’s proposal the risks it poses to public health, and our campaign to stop it together.

What: Public informational meeting about the NJ Transit Power Plant, its risks to residents and the environment, as well as a safe and clean energy alternative. We will also discuss our advocacy campaign and how, with your help, we can stop this proposal and ensure that NJ Transit does this project the right way, with a 21st-century renewable energy alternative - NOT a toxic gas-burning power plant.

We’ll also hear updates on local campaigns to stop the 10 billion dollar proposal to widen the Turnpike through Jersey City and stop threats to Liberty State Park.
