Let's Bring Public Renewable Energy to Central Brooklyn!

Start: Wednesday, May 01, 2024 6:00 PM

End: Wednesday, May 01, 2024 8:30 PM

Fighting climate change isn’t just about saving the planet — it’s also an opportunity to make our air and water cleaner, to save us money, prevent blackouts, and create high-quality union jobs. We passed the Build Public Renewables Act (BPRA) last year to unleash the potential of the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to lead the state and the nation in a just transition.

Right now, city, state and federal funding programs are available to help us build a future where we can all thrive. After years of budget cuts and deferred maintenance, the older buildings at BC, like so much of CUNY, waste money and energy and need extensive repair and upgrading. And the electric grid surrounding us also needs drastic improvements: residents of Flatbush and Central Brooklyn disproportionately suffer from power outages even as electric bills keep rising. We have the technologies and funding to solve these problems. BC and Flatbush need public support and partnerships to build the clean energy future we deserve.

Join us for a panel conversation with an amazing and diverse array of people working to make this happen — from elected officials and state representatives to BC students, faculty and staff, community leaders and public renewable energy advocates. We'll partner with State Senator Jabari Brisport, Assemblymember Robert Carroll, BC Professor Mike Menser, community EJ advocates Rona Taylor and Deborah Alves, BC students and YOU to create a plan for a healthy, sustainable, thriving future. Join us in demanding that the Governor and NYPA take action!
