March with BLM DC in the MLK Parade

Start: Monday, January 21, 201910:30 AM

March with us in the Annual MLK Parade.

“We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality,” Martin Luther King, Jr. (1963)

WE ARE NOT SATISFIED!

Each year we are honored to participate in this Parade. We take the opportunity to #ReclaimMLK seriously. To invite our community to join in reclaiming the radical MLK. Not the whitewashed, more palatable MLK that people try to control by never including the quote above in the "I Have A Dream"speech though Dr. King included it in his spoken remarks that day.

We celebrate his resistance in a time he was unpopular, many people thought he was a trouble maker, too radical, an extremist, lawless and seeking justice “the wrong way”. These are similar sentiments society currently holds about BLM. Like him, we continue to resist.

We will celebrate, march and pass out information about our work and campaigns.

We will meet at 10:30 AM at the corner of Good Hope Rd.SE and MLK Ave. SE. In front of Good Hope Hydroponics. The parade steps off at 12PM and the route is 1.5 miles long ending at the Gateway Pavillon – 2730 MLK Ave SE where the Health and Community Fair will be held from 12- 3 pm (nearest station is Congress Heights Metro).

We’d love for you to join us. As always our work is Black led and for Black people. With that as a guiding principle, allies are welcome to march with us.

It’s going to be cold! Dress warmly, wear comfortable shoes and clothes.

If you can donate hand warmers (we need a lot), feet warmers, snacks, and/ or make copies of the documents we will pass out please send us an email at blacklivesmatterdmv@gmail.com.
