One Year to Stop Danskammer: The Countdown Begins
Danskammer Update & Training
The time has finally come-- the official public hearings on Danskammer have been set, and they will be virtual on March 31st at 1pm & 6pm. Details on how to register will be coming out soon! We're holding an update and training on March 23rd to get folks up to speed-- hope you can join us!
The state has one year to review Danskammer’s application and determine whether to approve or deny the project -- but they’ve only guaranteed us a couple of public hearings during this year-long process. That means this upcoming hearing is critical for our campaign!
In order to stop this power plant we must demonstrate to Governor Cuomo and the Siting Board that New Yorkers are strongly opposed to Danskammer. We must show up in force to the virtual public hearing!
Join us for an update and training on March 23rd at 7pm. We will gather together, learn about the application process, go over how to give virtual public testimony, share talking points and hear from key leaders on the issue.
We need your help…
Invite your friends!
Invite your neighbors!
Together we will stop this!
Let’s make sure the Hudson Valley is a place where people can breathe clean air and drink safe water, for generations to come.
Background:
The fossil fuel industry has proposed building a new, fully operational fracked gas power plant right on the Hudson River in Newburgh, NY, called Danskammer. If approved and put into operation, it would mean a 70% increase in greenhouse gases and known carcinogens such as benzene and formaldehyde.
More and more activists, individual elected officials, & municipalities across the Hudson Valley have been learning about this impending public health threat to the region and urging Governor Cuomo to use his power to stop it!
