Overview: the Assembly One-House Budget and How It Sets the Agenda for Final Budget Negotiations

Each legislative year begins with the Governor releasing her Executive Budget proposal in early January, after which the two legislative chambers—the State Assembly and the State Senate—begin to prepare a response to the Executive’s proposal by putting together their own individual “one-house” budget proposals. This year, we're seeing reckless cuts in education and healthcare, and we need a more proactive and holistic approach to addressing the crises in housing, climate, childcare, and more.
