As the warming climate leads to hotter summer temperatures, workers are facing increased risks from heat. Working class people, particularly those who work outdoors, are most vulnerable to impacts such as health consequences and loss of income. Join the Midstate Council for Occupational Health and Safety (MCOSH) and Sunrise Ithaca to learn about your rights with regard to heat, and how to stay safe in worsening extreme heat conditions.
Sunrise Ithaca is campaigning for policies intended to protect workers in the Ithaca area, in line with the recommendations of Ithaca's Climate Action Plan, such as mandating breaks and access to water for workers. Similar policies have already been passed in other regions, such as Phoenix. We want to hear from you! Do you feel that these policies would be helpful for improving your work environment? Are there additional policies that you feel are needed? Come learn about Sunrise Ithaca's new worker’s survey (Spanish version here), which will give you a chance to share your experiences dealing with heat on the job and your thoughts on protective policies to help Sunrise support your needs as they push for better working conditions.
