Mecklenburg County Medicare for All Resolution vote

Start: Wednesday, September 03, 202505:30 PM

Background Info

On Wednesday, September 3rd, the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners will vote on a Medicare for All resolution in support of the Medicare for All bills in Congress (HR-3069 in the House and S-1506 in the Senate).

If this resolution passes, Mecklenburg will join over 130 localities nationwide and four in North Carolina (Carrboro, Durham, Orange County and Greensboro) that have already passed similar measures. It would send a powerful message about North Carolina's support for healthcare reform.

Medicare for All is a proposal for a single-payer healthcare system where the government would provide insurance to all residents under an expanded and improved version of Medicare. It is the only universal healthcare system proposal under consideration in Congress and the only existing proposal that will eliminate medical debt, make healthcare affordable and accessible, and ensure quality care for all Americans.

Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) is an original cosponsor of the legislation in the U.S. House. of Representatives.
