Join us for a comprehensive training with NYLPI’s Medical Providers Network on reviewing and assessing medical records from detention facilities, identifying deviations from accepted standards of care, and drafting strong, evidence-based advocacy letters tailored to each individual’s health needs. The training will also cover how these letters are used to advocate for appropriate medical care and release from detention within the U.S. immigration detention system.
Our speaker will be Dr. Sugarman, who trained in family medicine at the Residency Program of Social Medicine at Montefiore Hospital in 1991. She has spent her entire career serving underserved populations, mostly at FQHC's, Federally Qualified Health Centers.
She has worked in Washington DC since 2003 and the FQHC Unity Health Care since 2010. She has been performing forensic evaluations for asylum seekers since 2004. She is an active member of D4CC, Doctors for Camp Closure. She is also on the steering committee of NYLPI's Medical Providers Network.
