On Wednesday, July 17, 8 p.m. ET - join us, for the Medicare for All Florida monthly meeting, with the following guest speakers:
- Rebecca Desir, MPH, is an award-winning public health practitioner who
is dedicated to making a positive difference in the world. Born and raised in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, as the proud daughter of Haitian immigrants, Rebecca is currently serving as the Senior Manager of Community Advocacy for AdventHealth Central Florida. Rebecca's passion about addressing health equity in Black communities led her to start her own nonprofit organization, Black Health Commission. The organization hosts an annual BLK JOY Festival, which attracts over 1,000 Central Floridians. Rebecca is committed to making a meaningful impact in public health and social justice, which has earned her accolades such as Orlando Business Journal's 40 under 40 and Orlando Sentinel's 2023 Central Floridian of the Year finalist. When she's not working, Rebecca is an active member of her community and serves on the board for The LGBTQ+ Center Orlando and the Center for Thriving Communities. - Stanley Campbell, candidate for the U.S. Senate, was an appointee of NASA's Executive Advisory Board during the George H.W. Bush Administration. He served at the Defense Intelligence Agency and contributed to TSA's Passenger Screening and Security initiative. Today, he is the CEO of a national healthcare technology company, that is working on reducing Medicare fraud. As part of his platform, he is running on "Improving Access to Affordable, Quality Healthcare".
- Emily Rodrigues, candidate for FL state House District 98. A native of Oakland Park, Emily is deeply rooted in District 98, where she has resided her entire life. Her passion for advocacy was ignited during her college years following a personal experience with sexual assault on campus. As a survivor, she has become a strong voice for victims' rights. With a B.S. in Political Science from UCF and currently pursuing an M.A. in Political Communication at UF, Emily gained valuable experience working in the Florida Senate under State Senator Shevrin Jones. In this role, she played a key part in passing impactful bills, securing substantial state funding, addressing constituent concerns, and organizing community events. She co-founded a student organization at UCF, focusing on advocacy and support for survivors, and served as a keynote speaker for One Billion Rising UCF, an annual event advocating against violence towards women. In addition to being the only woman in her race, she is the youngest qualified candidate in Broward County – and the only Latina.
- Sadie Holzmeyer, is the outreach coordinator for the Digital Democracy Project. With a background in mental health, Sadie has served as a community organizer, environmental and social justice activist, and former coordinator for her local Sunrise Movement Hub. Sadie enjoys organizing for political campaigns, promoting renewable energy, and increasing community access to healthy foods. The Digital Democracy Project enables regular Florida citizens, to vote on the same bills which are being considered and voted on by our state or federal legislators. Sadie will share more information about how to take action with the Digital Democracy Project as well as an exciting new development around the issue of healthcare.
