Kyle Krueger, Legislative Aide for Senator Anna Caballero, will join us on Friday, February 21 at 9:30 am Pacific, on Zoom.

You are welcome to join our meeting with a key staffer to Senator Anna Caballero, who represents Senate District 14—a large portion of the Central Valley from Merced to Fresno and Coalinga.

When Senator Mike McGuire became President pro Tempore of the state Senate in 2024, he appointed Senator Caballero to the second most powerful position in the caucus: Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Appropriations hands down live-or-die decisions on all impactful legislation, frequently mandating amendments and controlling what moves to a floor vote and what "dies in Appropriations." In 2025 Appropriations decisions will be, arguably, more important than ever, as the state faces potentially budget-busting costs of climate-related damages and the insurance crisis, including potential insolvency of the California Fair Plan, the state's insurer of last resort.

In light of these looming challenges, we'll be most interested in learning Senator Caballero's views of Polluter Pays/Climate Superfund legislation, which we expect will be introduced before our meeting this Friday; and SB 222, Climate disasters: civil actions, Senator Wiener's bill enabling insurers and the Fair Plan to sue the richest oil companies for relief when the insurers run out of money to compensate fire victims.

This meeting with Kyle Krueger, Legislative Aide for Senator Caballero, will be our first opportunity to meet with her office. We'll have plenty to talk about!
