Community meeting on ripping out bike lanes on Humboldt & proposing alternatives
Start: Wednesday, June 18, 2025•06:00 PM
End: Wednesday, June 18, 2025•09:00 PM
On Wed., June 18, the City of San Mateo will be presenting alternatives for the bike lanes that currently protect North Central residents, including kids attending multiple elementary and high schools. We need you to attend and let the City know that you oppose any expensive changes to the bike lanes that will result in less safe streets for residents.
At this meeting, the City will propose ripping out most of the Humboldt bike lanes, which were installed three years ago and have contributed to a recent improvement in safety in North Central, which has the most dangerous streets in the City. Previously, the County Department of Education included Humboldt in its Youth-based High Injury Network due to the high crash rate for kids on foot and bike. Prior to the installation of the bike lanes on Humboldt, a driver hit a 68-year-old resident on a bike, putting him in a coma and breaking several ribs.
We are expecting a strong turn out from opponents of the bike lanes, who have joined forces with many anti-housing advocates in San Mateo. We hope to see you at this important meeting to let the City know that you prioritize safety over auto convenience and do not support ripping out the bike lanes.
Thanks for your continued support,
Mike Swire & Move San Mateo
