MEGA picket to Stop Rosebank!

📍DESNZ, SW1A 2AW. 🕐 8am, Thursday 20th November.

Fossil Free London has been busy these last few weeks! Running our picket outside DESNZ every weekday morning Parliament is sitting, to put as much political pressure as possible on our Government to make the right decision.

We've been upping the pressure now, because we believe the UK government will make a new decision on Rosebank soon; after a public consultation on Equinor's new application for the oil field ends on the 20th November.

And so, for the last day of the public consultation, we want to up the pressure EVEN MORE! And bring as many of us as possible out on the streets to join the picket.
What happens in these coming weeks will shape whether our government listens to the public and stops the biggest undeveloped oil field in the UK - or listens to the oil lobby of Rosebank owners Equinor and Ithaca.

Join us on the 20th November, and let's make our opposition to this field so loud we can't be ignored!

AND join us after the picket to greencard our MP's, with Hope for the Future!

We know that the final decision on Rosebank rests with the government. That's why after the picket, we’ll be taking our energy and passion right to our politicians by going to parliament to ‘greencard’ our MPs.

Greencarding is the simplest way of arranging a meeting with your MP – it's a process by which anyone can enter parliament and ‘greencard’ their representative, i.e., letting them know that you would like to speak to them.

This is your chance to take your campaigning to the next level by having a face to face meeting with your MP. When oil & gas industry lobbyists are meeting politicians at a record rate, it's essential that we’re there to be a voice for people & planet.

To know:

  • You can’t guarantee that your MP will see you - but they will be told that you attempted to contact them, and be expected to respond

  • If you want to increase the chance of your MP being available you can write to them in advance to let them know you’ll be coming, but this isn’t necessary for greencarding.

  • There might be some waiting time involved - it can take up to 30 minutes to enter parliament (but it likely won’t) and you might then have to wait for your MP to become available. We will all be there together, and other activities will be going on whilst we wait

  • You have to go through airport-style security to get into parliament, and you can’t take any placards, flags or other campaign materials

  • Experts in democratic engagement from Hope for the Future will be on hand to answer any questions on the day
