October is domestic violence awareness month. Over the last several years, the rates of domestic, intimate partner, sexual and state violence has increased. So has the rate of criminalization for those needing mental health services.

In partnership with the Movement For Black Lives, we will lead a presentation centered on community safety. Participants will engage in table discussions on community safety and discuss alternatives to incarceration that promote it.

The event will feature a short video and panel discussion with survivors of intimate partner, domestic, sexual and state violence along with Melesa Johnson and Tracey Chappell who are running for the Jackson County Prosecutor's seat.

Missouri ranks 3rd in the nation for those who have experienced domestic or intimate partner violence.

Black and indigenous community members face higher rates of violence than other community members yet they are least likely to receive the support, care and services that they need.

This is a critical conversation that our community must have. We hope that you will join us. Lunch will be provided.

“ Bag Lady, Hope In Handbags & Backpack Blessings”: Community Service Project

Please join us in the children’s room as we stuff gently used and new handbags and backpacks with essential items. These bags will be used to support community members and their children who are impacted by domestic, intimate partner, sexual and state violence. This space will be open throughout the event. Please stop in and stuff some bags with us.

Local Artist Gallery

We will also showcase a local artist gallery. The art work of several local artists will be on display for viewing. Please come out and support local artists.  If you are a local artist and would like to participate, please reach out to Justice Gatson by texting 816-945-0841 or email her at realejustice17@gmail.com.

Lunch:  We will reach out to those who registered to get your dietary needs/allergies and such.

Would you like to support this event?
