                  1) Bargaining Basics
                           • This course introduces bargaining rules, procedures, and good practices for bargaining                                   your local agreement.
                 2) MFPE Local Leader Training
                         • Guidelines, suggestions, and tools to help you get organized, take action, and build an                                     effective local union.
                 3) Member Benefits and Student Loan Forgiveness
                        • An overview of NEA and AFT member benefits with special emphasis on accessing                                             student loan forgiveness options for public employees.
                4) Member Rights and the Grievance Process
                       • Learn the rules of the road for defending member rights and your local contract - from                                    Weingarten rights to binding arbitration.
               5) Treasurer Training
                      • The basics that every MFPE local treasurer needs to know. Also recommended for local                                   presidents.

1:15 p.m.     Afternoon Breakout Sessions:      

                 1) School Budgeting and Finance
                      • Basics of school finance and school budgeting for union leaders, including MFPE                                             resources designed to help at school bargaining tables.
                2) Member Rights and the Grievance Process
                      • Learn the rules of the road for defending member rights and your local contract - from                                 Weingarten rights to binding arbitration.              
               3) Social Media and Communications Strategies for the Modern Union
                      • Communicating with members is essential for any union. Proven techniques, new and                                    old, will be presented and discussed.  
              4) Organizing for Power: Answering “the” Questions
                   • What does the union do for me? Why should I belong? What do union dues even pay for?                           You’ve heard them. Workshop will focus on providing answers that engage new members                           to grow your local union.
              5) Advanced Bargaining: Strategies and Tactics
                     • Learn about the problems that often arise during bargaining and tactics to overcome them

MFPEWestern MT Training is intended for members in western Montana. If you would like to attend the training from outside of western Montana please request permission prior to registering from MFPE Exec. Director Erik Burke at eburke@mfpe.org.


ROOMING

If you are traveling more than 50 miles to Missoula, MFPE will pay for your room on Friday night of the conference (February 21), provided you are sharing with another participant.

If you desire a single room or bring a guest, you must pay the difference $59.86 (to be paid at training registration). All guest rooms are smoke free.

Deadline to secure or cancel a room is February 10th. If you register & do not show up or do not provide cancellation notice by February 10th, you will be responsible for room charges.

MILEAGE & MEAL REIMBURSEMENT

• MFPE will reimburse mileage expenses at $0.30 cents per mile per car with one occupant. If another   MFPE member is traveling with you, reimbursement will be $0.50 cents per mile. Mileage will be based     on the Montana highway map mileage chart.

• MFPE will provide Saturday breakfast and lunch. MFPE will reimburse dinner Friday night for members    traveling more than 50 miles to Missoula, upon submission of itemized receipt and subject to MFPE      reimbursement limits.
