Minimum Wage Campaign Planning Workshop
Start: Wednesday, May 14, 2025•06:30 PM
End: Wednesday, May 14, 2025•08:00 PM
Oklahoma workers deserve a living wage.
In Oklahoma, nearly half of the workforce earns less than $15 an hour. The state minimum wage is tied to the federal rate, which has been $7.25 since 2009. A full-time worker earning minimum wage brings in less than $15,100 for full year's work. While the minimum wage has stagnated for the past 16 years, living costs have increased by 50%. As a result, many of us struggle to afford food, housing, childcare, healthcare, and other basic necessities.
It doesn't have to be this way. In June 2026, Oklahomans will be voting on SQ 832, a ballot measure that would raise the minimum wage to $15/hour and regularly adjust the rate to account for inflation thereafter. This would be a first step towards addressing the poverty and other economic problems affecting working Oklahomans. However, businesses and politicians are already doing everything in their power to ensure the measure fails and we remain poor.
As workers, we must fight for what we deserve. This means talking to other Oklahomans about why a $15 minimum wage is good for working people and building a broad coalition capable of winning meaningful changes for the working class.
Join us to help plan our Minimum Wage Campaign!
Last month, Oklahoma City DSA passed a resolution committing the chapter to develop and launch a minimum wage campaign to help pass SQ 832. Join us on Wed May 14 at the Capitol Hill Library for our first campaign planning meeting. As always, we need your energy, knowledge, and ideas to make this happen! All members and supporters welcome.
The Campaign Planning Workshop will be led by a DSA staff organizer with extensive strategic campaign and electoral experience. Together, we will set campaign goals, identify allies, develop a timeline, and strategize on how to make the campaign a success.
Following the workshop, we'll host a chapter social (location and other details will be announced at the workshop).
