Across the UK, most people don’t live in big cities — but most political organising still happens there.

In hundreds of towns, there is little visible, sustained grassroots presence that helps people understand what’s happening to them or offers collective ways to respond. Isolated activists are left without confidence or connection, while the far right builds local footholds by simply showing up.

This online event, hosted by Workers Planet, is part of the push to mobilise everywhere ahead of May Day. We’ll talk about why rebuilding grassroots presence in towns and smaller cities is now urgent — and how movements can start doing this in practical, realistic ways, without waiting for perfect conditions or burning people out.

This is not about launching a new organisation or arguing over programmes. It’s about starting where we are, with who we have — even if that means five people doing something together in public and realising that it’s enough to begin.

If you’re a trade unionist, climate organiser, community campaigner, or someone frustrated by the absence of local organising where you live, this call is for you.
