Join an upcoming Mutual Aid LA Network call to get connected to your community and organize! Register and save the date: Aug. 21, 7pm.

We want to welcome each person who has been in contact with our network, whether you have requested assistance, volunteered, or supported our work, to collectively build the future of the Mutual Aid LA Network.

Mutual aid is a way of life rooted in Black, Brown, Indigenous, and poor communities as a means of organizing, love, and survival against the oppressive systems which inflict violence upon our communities. Mutual Aid LA is relatively new in the mutual aid landscape of our city. We began mobilizing in March, as COVID-19 demonstrated to us that those who hold power were clearly not going to care for us or provide what we needed to survive.

So far, we have done incredible work like distributing direct cash assistance, outreaching to our unhoused siblings, redistributing resources to other mutual aid efforts, and delivering supplies to immunocompromised neighbors, to name a few. However, we recognize that the system we established has resulted in inconsistency, minimal interaction, and delays in response time. For this reason, we are refocusing our work on what it needs to be: grounded in community.

In this re-grounding and re-organizing of Mutual Aid LA, we will be using our mutual aid infrastructure to support “Neighborhood Pods”-- small, hyper-localized group of community members coming together to either create their own neighborhood mutual aid group or tapping into existing mutual aid efforts.

Anyone can start a “Neighborhood pod” and be a part of this work! To learn more about how to get involved, please join one of our following orientation calls.

These meetings will be live interpreted into ASL and Spanish thanks to @probonoasl and members of our Mutual Aid Network LA community. If you have any additional accessibility needs please email needs@mutualaidla.org or text (424) 255-8910‬. They will also be recorded and available for viewing.

Please note: We recognize that some of you may be waiting to hear from us regarding specific requests. We are holding these calls and developing a new more localized model, in part, to address this concern. At this time we are not accepting new requests for aid as we are transitioning to a more localized model. Any request for groceries and/or cash assistance made from the beginning of June onward most likely will not be able to be accommodated. We are assessing the capacity of our community and working to build capacity through efforts like these calls in order to better care for one another.
