National Day of Action to Free Families
Start: Wednesday, May 20, 2026•01:30 PM
Location: Union Square• Between 3rd St NW and the Capitol Reflecting Pool, Washington, DC 20004 US
All children deserve a childhood, but the Trump administration has detained thousands of children and parents. That’s why, on May 20th, families from around the country are showing up in D.C to demand Congress shut down the Dilley Detention Center and permanently end family detention.
Join us in Union Square on May 20th for a day of action. Join us at 1:30 PM to see an art instillation of hundreds of paper dolls and teddy bears, followed by a rally at 2:00 PM and children's story time from 3:00 PM-6:00 PM. You can contribute to the art installation by printing out and bringing your own paper dolls HERE.
This action is organized in collaboration between Free Families: The National Coalition to End Family and Child Detention and the Read Them Home initiative, led by the 10 Steps Campaign and the National Domestic Workers Alliance. We invite parents, educators, health professionals, faith communities, and all concerned individuals and caring neighbors across the country to stand with us.
