New Mexico Is Not a Sacrifice Zone: Building Frontline & Intergenerational Strategies for Resisting False Solutions

What false climate solutions are showing up in your community, and how are you fighting back?

Join New Mexico No False Solutions for an interactive, cross-regional strategy exchange bringing together frontline, Indigenous, youth, and intergenerational organizers from New Mexico and beyond.

Featuring:
Feleecia Guillen - New Mexico No False Solutions

Richard Moore - Los Jardines Institute

Julia Bernal - Pueblo Action Alliance

Krystal Curley - Indigenous Lifeways

From hydrogen and carbon capture and storage (CCS) to nuclear development, mining, data centers, and continued fossil fuel expansion, communities across New Mexico are confronting so-called climate solutions that threaten their land, water, health, sovereignty, and futures.

Together, we will explore:

  • What false climate solutions are showing up in our communities?

  • Who is being asked to bear the costs of the so-called energy transition?

  • How are frontline communities organizing and fighting back?

  • What strategies can we learn from one another across regions and generations?

  • How can we build collective power for a truly just transition?

This event will create space for storytelling, strategy exchange, and collective problem-solving. Rather than simply talking about the challenges communities face, participants will have an opportunity to share organizing tools, identify common threats, and explore how our movements can work together across regions and generations.

New Mexico is often treated as a sacrifice zone – a place where corporations and governments can extract our resources, pollute our land and water, and experiment with false climate solutions in the name of a so-called transition.

From the Pueblos and Indigenous communities protecting land and water, to farmers and rural communities resisting extraction, to young people organizing for climate justice, communities across New Mexico are building another vision: a transition rooted in land, water, sovereignty, health, justice, and community power.

Join us to connect across movements, share strategies, and build collective power to ensure that New Mexico – and no community – is sacrificed for a false climate solution.
