On Friday, August 14, join us at OpenAI's Bellevue office to show the AI company they are not welcome in our backyard.
As part of their Stargate project, OpenAI announced 8 new data center sites in Texas, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Michigan, Georgia and Ohio. Many of these sites are currently under construction, and communities have been gearing up to fight these projects on the ground. But here in Seattle/Bellevue, where we have direct access to OpenAI offices, we have a crucial role to play.
When Trump announced OpenAI's Stargate project at the White House, he described the $500 billion project as "the largest AI infrastructure project in history". Stargate has 8 gigawatts of planned capacity, comparable to the electricity consumption of a small nation.
Earlier this year, OpenAI opened two floors of their Bellevue office. The company is in the process of adding up to 10 more floors and currently hiring over 75 positions in Bellevue. We have a critical opportunity to put pressure in support of communities enduring the harmful impacts of OpenAI's data centers. As OpenAI scrambles to hire and fill its offices, we will put on a loud showing of resistance to create reputational pressure during their attempts at expansion.
Join us at 9am on Friday, August 14 to send a message to OpenAI that they are not welcome. We will be meeting at Ashwood Plaza in Bellevue, an 8 minute walk from the Downtown Bellevue light rail station.
