Despite overwhelming opposition from residents, environmental advocates, and elected officials, for the past four years, the NJ Dept of Environmental Protection has approved a permit allowing the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission to move forward with plans for a new gas power plant in Newark's Ironbound. PVSC can now vote to begin construction, which they plan to do in April—further compounding the pollution and health burdens already disproportionately affecting the Ironbound and surrounding communities.
We need you to take action with us in solidarity with the Ironbound Community on Thursday, March 13th to demand PVSC abandon their toxic plans.
At 10:30, we will rally in-person at the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission in Newark with community advocates and elected officials to call on the Commission to abandon plans for their gas plant.
Join us in Newark at 600 Wilson Ave, Newark NJ (at the corner of Ave P and Wilson) for this rally and press conference.
Then at 12:00 PM, PVSC will hold a virtual board meeting. Whether or not you can attend the rally, please Zoom in to the board meeting and make a public comment opposing the gas plant! We will share the link and talking points after you RSVP. *People who come in person are encouraged to attend the board meeting via their phones.*
RSVP to join the meeting and make a comment call on PVSC to abandon this toxic plan!
We'll send details for getting to the rally and joining the zoom meeting and talking points to all who RSVP.
