No to Gas, Yes to Wind

Start: Tuesday, July 29, 202506:30 PM

For CARI's July Community Meeting, join us for a two-part event on a fossil fuel project threatening Rhode Island communities — and what we can do to stop it. From halting harmful gas expansions to advancing offshore wind, we’ll explore how to get our state off fossil fuels and onto a cleaner path forward.

Part 1: presentation from No PipelineExpansion (NOPE) Coalition on RI pipeline project
Martha Klein, Lead Coordinator for NOPE Northeast

No Pipeline Expansion (NOPE) Northeast is a multi-state coalition of 100+ community organizations opposed to pipeline expansions by Enbridge, TC Energy, and other extractive and exploitative fossil fuel companies across our region. This presentation will focus on the proposed “Reliable Affordable Resilient Enhancement” (RARE) pipeline expansion project, and the completed pipeline expansion under the Sakonnet River between Portsmouth and Little Compton RI.

Part 2: presentation from ClimateAction Rhode Island’s Yes to Wind team
Christian Roselund, policy analyst & Y2W team lead

To get Rhode Island off our over-reliance on natural gas, we need to support clean energy like offshore wind. Getting our energy from offshore wind instead of fossil fuels cuts emissions driving sea level rise, stronger storms, and flooding—threats already impacting our coastal communities. It also makes our energy system more secure by reducing reliance on imported fuels and stabilizing prices. Hear from the Yes to Wind team on ongoing efforts and learn how you can get involved!
