Bring friends and signs re #DivestFromDAPL and divestment in general. Taking Action Against the Banks Standing Rock organizers are calling for direct actions, demonstrations and other disruptions targeting the banks behind the pipeline. They also ask that people use this date to close their accounts with these banks. Here is a guide on how to close and switch your bank account. Background: In August, a group of banks agreed to lend $2.5 billion to Dakota Access. But $1.4 billion of this loan is still on hold until the Army Corps grants the final permits for the pipeline. This means that there is still time for the banks involved in this loan to cut their line of credit. Here in Santa Barbara we are focusing on CLOSING accounts with Chase, Wells Fargo and Bank of America.
Please bring signs and good spirits for this non-violent protest outside of these banks. The focus of this action is to apply direct pressure to the banks by taking our money out!
It would not be strategic to completely disrupt the workflow in the banks because then we will not be able to close our accounts. Only bank customers can go inside to close their accounts. For those not closing accounts please respect the movement, demonstrate outside, and help spread the word to the public.
More info: Before you close your account please see if you can open an account elsewhere.
Below is a list of options with NO LINK TO DAPL that would accept new customers by appointment (it does take about 30 minutes to open an account)
Heritage Oaks Bank; Luis Villegas- 805-879-7137—lvillegas@heritageoaksbank.com First Bank—Louie Esquivel—805-563-6400—louie.esquivel@fbol.com First Bank—Mario Guerrero—805-563-6400—Mario.guerrero@fbol.com American Riviera Bank—805-965-5942
Again, it is important for you to open a bank account first. There are other options not listed, but these people/banks have stepped forward and do not have links to DAPL in anyway.

Finally, please call the Sheriff Departments that have been brutalizing peaceful water protectors, and pressure them to Withdraw from Standing Rock.
Sheriff Departments and Police Departments from across the Midwest have sent officers to violently attack and suppress Water Protectors. We are calling on these Departments to permanently withdraw their officers from Standing Rock. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office withdrew after facing protests in Minneapolis. Here is a list of Sheriff and Police Departments that have deployed at Standing Rock: Morton County Sheriff Department
