De-escalation is the basis for our non violent movement, whether you are interacting with your neighbor, a fellow protester or an aggitator at an event. We practice de-escalation by staying in touch with our nervous system reactions and by learning skills to navigate conflict. This workshop is the base for moving toward acting in a peacekeeping role for an event, but you can use it in any context. Now’s your chance to get started building your skillset!

We offer live role plays giving you the chance to:

  • Overcome the freeze response

  • Learn basic de-escalation skills, tactics and strategies

  • React quickly and calmly under pressure

  • Build confidence

Robin Thomas, and Matt Honsinger of Bellingham Peacekeepers will be leading this free  training. This is an experiential workshopwhere you will actively practice these skills and role play. There are many excellent on-line trainings, but we are building community and let’s face it, there is no replacement for practicing with your fellow citizens. We’ll go over some basic nonviolent strategy and build our collective understanding of how we can respond with grace and courage to the present conditions we are facing.

We welcome you to come a bit early if you want to sit eat, and the workshop will start promptly at 6PM. More details on location and logistics after you register.

Come with an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a readiness to practice. No experience necessary. Everyone is welcome.

The space and bathrooms are wheelchair accessible.
