An unprecedented wave of protests has swept the country in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, and already these protests have garnered concrete policy victories in cities across the nation. Once again, direct action has proven itself as the ultimate tool by which the people can use their collective power to pressure the government into action.

There's more to protesting than just showing up and marching though - staying safe during actions and using your body effectively are skills that can be honed and improved.

To help activists across movements build up these skills as they continue participating in protests, Extinction Rebellion DC will be hosting a Nonviolent Direct Action Training on Tuesday, June 16 from 6-8pm in McPherson Square. We're hoping that the knowledge we've gained from our actions for climate justice in the past can benefit people taking action for racial justice now.

This training will cover the basic tenets of nonviolence theory, as well as real-world skills you can use the next time you're out in the street.

Whether you're nervous about entering risky situations, interested in learning why nonviolence is so effective, or keen to add tools to your activist arsenal, this training will help you make an even bigger positive impact at the next protest you attend.

We will be holding this training outdoors, with all participants wearing masks and social distancing, to minimize the risk of Covid-19 transmission.

Food will be provided - please RSVP so we know how much to bring!
