November 2025 Unlearning Circle - Accountability for Harm: Calling In Ourselves and Each Other

Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025

10 am to Noon

On Zoom

As we continue our series on accountability, we will focus on how we notice and respond when white supremacy culture shows up in ourselves and others. Prentis Hemphill reminds us that “Harm is part of being a relational being. It’s part of being in community.” Being in community presupposes that we have a set of shared values, but during this fraught time when racist harm seems to be an acceptable outcome to some, how do we respond in a way that is consistent with our values, that doesn’t write people off? How do we have constructive conversations about white supremacy culture when we are all socialized to punish and blame? How do we recognize when we are fixating on what others are or are not doing in their own anti-racist work, instead of looking at the areas in which we are behaving out of alignment with our own values?

At this Unlearning Circle we will introduce the practices of calling in, calling out, and calling on, using the wisdom of Loretta Ross and others. We will touch on what it means to be an accountable person in our relationships with each other, and how and who we allow to support us in holding ourselves accountable to our racial justice values.
