This is the first in a two part series on persuasive writing and op-eds.

By the end of the two sessions, DSA members will:

  • learn the differences in form/format between op-eds and letters-to-the-editor and how to pitch both to news outlets

  • identify the characteristics of effective op-eds and letters-to-the-editor

  • understand the mechanics of effective storytelling, and how to address public policy issues through a personal and emotional lens

1:50 – 2:20 = Shaping your story: Structure & process

2:20 – 2:30 = Break

2:30 – 3:00 = Conveying your story: Using effective language

3:00 – 3:10 = Q&A / contingency period (if we go long w/ earlier modules)

3:10 – 3:30 = Publishing your story: How to pitch locally and nationally
