The St. Charles County Council introduced Bill 5474, which directs the County Executive to enter into a 287(g) agreement with ICE. This agreement would deputize local law enforcement to act as ICE agents, expanding immigration enforcement in the region. Join faith and business leaders alongside other concerned community members, to respond to this bill and it's devastating economic and social costs to your community.
Why are 287(g) agreements a problem? ICE is quickly and carelessly ramping up its enforcement and will seek outside help from state and local law enforcement to arrest and deport noncitizens. This buildup of the deportation machine has been tried before and led to documented racial profiling, civil rights violations, isolation of immigrant communities, family separation, and the misuse of local resources.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR to join your community members at the St Charles County Council Meeting on Monday, March 30th at 6 PM for a press conference AND to testify in opposition on this dangerous bill!
