This is a virtual event

Join the Young Greens and the United Voices of the World trade union to hear how they're organising precarious, low-paid, and migrant workers to win better treatment. Members and non-members welcome!

Covid-19 has laid bare the multiple crises that our society is facing. Climate crisis, health crisis, global debt crisis, employment crisis: to confront each, we must take a radical step away from our current political and economic system. But those who hold power in our society - politicians, bosses, and landlords - won't be persuaded to change a system that works to their advantage.

But this crisis has also made something very clear: that the work that keeps society going is not done by bosses or landlords, but by working people. At critical points like this, when it's easy to feel powerless, we need to recognise the power we have as a collective of students and working people and exercise it to determine our future.

Join us on 14 May at 8.05pm to hear from United Voices of the World, a radical "members-led, campaigning trade union which supports and empowers the most vulnerable groups of precarious, low-paid and predominantly migrant workers in the UK." Speakers will include:

  • Petros Elia - Founder of UVW & Organiser
  • Kane Shaw - Editorial Lead, Campaigns Communications
  • Gabby Jeliazkov - Editorial Lead, Campaigns Communications
  • Isabel Cortes - UVW Women's Officer
  • Julinka Ebhardt - Lead Visual Designer
  • Molly de Dios Fisher - UVW Organiser

We'll be hearing how they've organised together to beat outsourcing and privatisation, everywhere from NHS trusts and government offices to universities and clubs.
