On Monday we have our second “Dessert & Discussion” event. This is a local effort to gather (virtually), catch up on local and national events, then have a brief guided discussion on a chosen topic - with cake! Or with coffee, or fruit, or wine, or whatever you decide. If this event goes well as well as our first one did, we’ll have another in two weeks, on June 22nd (topic: Maryland's post-covid education funding, with Nick Johnson). Save the date!
This week's Discussion will focus on author Upton Sinclair’s 1934 California gubernatorial platform: End Poverty in California – EPIC. The campaign called for a massive public works program, sweeping tax reform, and guaranteed pensions. EPIC chapters were formed across the state, and although Sinclair was defeated, the movement was an influence on FDR's New Deal. The discussion will be led by our chapter chair, Paul Baicich.
