Orlando People's Climate March
Start: April 29, 2017• 1:00 PM
End: April 29, 2017• 6:00 PM
Historically, American society has failed to make connection between direct impact of environmental injustices, our climate crisis, and our economy.
The climate crisis is a symptom of a deeper problem: an ECONOMY based on extraction and exploitation of resources and people. This economy benefits a few at the expense of communities and the planet.
Climate action must be rooted in RACIAL, ECONOMIC and GENDER JUSTICE.
We will be marching with the Pine Hills community - a community that has experienced first-hand environmental racism:
Housing is a climate issue. Transportation is a climate issue. Energy, education, food, and jobs are climate issues. Every sector of our economy must transition to stop climate change, Pine Hills cannot be left behind.
Our communities are under attack by policies rooted in systems of oppression like RACISM. A bold, urgent, collective response is needed to combat these systems that are hurting womyn, children, and families.
On April 29th, we will:
Resist Together: Climate denial is not a privilege that our communities can afford. We resist an economy that exploits people and planet in the name of profit for the already powerful and wealthy few.
We will call out politicians who go after climate, communities and jobs, and put forward a better vision for strong economy that works for people and the planet.
For Pine Hills this is more than a march! This is the People’s Climate Mobilization, a deepening and a strengthening of our movement and our community.
We will send a message to our elected officials that the people of PINE HILLS matter! That we deserve equal rights, freedom from discrimination and an economic system that will ensure that our communities will have collective ownership and sustainability that includes job readiness and living wages.
This March will ignite change by lifting up the voices of the Pine Hills community and those most impacted by climate change. This is more than a march, this is a gathering of people of color who are at the front lines of environmental and climate injustices, and who are ready to lead to help make change for a better future.
