On November 5th at 5:00 PM, the Plano City Council will vote on whether to withdraw from DART.
If Plano withdraws from DART, all DART bus, rail, and paratransit services within the city would cease immediately. Yet, the city would still be paying full price into the city for at least 10 years. Furthermore, Plano would lose out on nearly $60 million from the General Mobility Program that DART will provide the city.
People will lose access to jobs, the disability community will be unable to use crucial paratransit services, and bus/rail services within Plano will CEASE.
Plano claims that they have funding set aside for alternative services, but we have no details on what that looks like; it won’t include rail, and it won’t provide paratransit or bus riders with the regional mobility DART presently provides. This is going to be their primary argument, but we haven’t seen maps or details, and their “replacement” for DART is likely going to be inadequate, cheap garbage that is meant to pacify people who won’t investigate further.
