In a nuclear age how can we cultivate humanism, dialogue, and global citizenship as a response to nuclear threat? Alexander Harang joins us to explore how a humanistic peace framework reframes what we mean by “security,” how deference thinking fails, and what a people-centered lens makes visible, and the role of dialogue, empathy, and moral imagination in preventing escalation and building political will. We'll also hear how individuals and communities can practice “applied peace philosophy” in a way that supports nuclear risk reduction and disarmament.  

Alexander Harang serves as Senior Peace Researcher at the Ikeda Center for Peace, Learning, and Dialogue forging connections within the peace studies community, supporting collaborations, and advancing the Center’s programs and publications. Harang is an established peace researcher with more than two decades of leadership experience in the international peace movement. Beyond his role at the Ikeda Center, Harang holds the position of Distinguished Adjunct Professor at Soka University of America (SUA), where he specializes in exploring the contributions of Daisaku Ikeda to global peacebuilding endeavors. In addition, he advises the Nuclear Abolition Project at the Soka Institute for Global Solutions (California), serves as Nuclear Policy Advisor to the International Peace Bureau (Geneva) and as national board member of No to Nuclear Weapons (Norway).
