Join us for a forum on how to fix democracy and win a fairer, more equal society.
A tiny number of billionaires are growing in wealth and power. They have an ever-increasing influence over politicians. Most of the big problems we face, including cost-of-living pressures, housing unaffordability, ecological collapse, social division, and endless war, result from the lack of power of ordinary people.
Get together to hear from speakers and discuss ways we can win back our democracy.
Hear from Sonia Randhawa, from the Sortition Foundation, about how Citizens Assemblies have been used around the world to break political deadlocks. And Andrew George from Remake the World on the lessons from the People's Assembly of Lismore, set up after devastating floods. Find out about our new campaign to redistribute wealth and fix democracy from Jane Morton, Beyond Billionaires.
We will be joined by Eddie Kowalski and Craig Lambie from Conversations at the Crossroads, who were amongst the organisers of a huge event at the Melbourne Town Hall recently on Reclaiming Democracy. Eddie will describe the experience of running a large-scale deliberation on nuclear power last year using a method developed by Stanford University. Craig will talk about the use of local deliberative processes as the basis for choosing and guiding independents.
There will be lots of time for questions and discussion.
This is an in-person event, but if you can't join us face-to-face, still fill in your details, and we will send you a video recording of the event.
Our Zoom facilities won't be good enough for individuals to participate remotely, but if you can organise a viewing party and facilitate the discussions at a location that suits you, please email us at movebeyondbillionaires@proton.me, and we'll do our best to make it work.
