On September 20, 2026, Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, was delivering food for DoorDash in North Austin when a traffic stop by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers ended with Wilber being shot in the back. The bullet remains lodged in his back, while in ICE custody, till this day. And now he faces federal charges.

1 out of every 4 ICE arrests are happening in Texas. Wilber’s shooting followed less than three months after the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Araujo Salgado in Houston by ICE. Texas is leading the nation not with great policies that support and enhance community safety, but with an anti-immigrant agenda that terrorizes all of us.

In this moment, we need to come together to process the horrible actions of ICE, respond, and make demands as a community of the changes we need to see not only in Austin, but our state.

WE DEMAND:

• Wilber’s immediate release from ICE custody so can receive the medical attention he needs and participate in the ongoing investigation
• An independent, local investigation by the Travis County District Attorney
• ICE Out of Austin
• Abolish ICE

El 20 de septiembre de 2026, Wilber Rafael Garcés Pérez repartía comida para DoorDash en el norte de Austin cuando una intervención de tráfico realizada por agentes del ICE terminó con Wilber recibiendo un disparo por la espalda. La bala permanece alojada en su espalda hasta el día de hoy, mientras se encuentra bajo custodia del ICE. Y ahora se enfrenta a cargos federales.

Una de cada cuatro detenciones realizadas por ICE ocurre en Texas. • La liberación inmediata de Wilber de la custodia de ICE para que pueda recibir la atención médica que necesita y participar en la investigación en curso
• Una investigación local e independiente por parte del Fiscal de Distrito del Condado de Travis
• ICE fuera de Austin
• Abolir ICE
