Last time, Fukuyama argued that culture can slow or accelerate liberal democracy, maybe even that certain cultures are better for democracy. This time, we turn to Gramsci, who asks whether culture doesn’t just shape politics—but actively sustains power by shaping beliefs, habits, and common sense itself.
